Hello, this is Carrie! My husband Jason and I are oh so blessed to have the opportunity to share Julie Pischke Designs with the needlepoint community. If you have ever met Julie, seen her designs, or had the chance to visit Island Needlework in Key West, the honor is truly understandable.
Let's take a minute to get to know the mastermind behind the designs. Julie grew up in the needlepoint world, working and designing for her mother's shop, The Silver Web, in Ft. Lauderdale. After a brief run as a window designer in the Midwest, Julie and her husband Richard took a leap of faith and moved to Key West. Julie's first shop was on legendary Duval Street, the foundation for a lifetime of sharing her talent with us all.
In 1985, Julie and her family made the move to a historic conch house at 527 Fleming Street, which became home to Island Needlework. As you stepped through the front door, the vibrant colors and smart designs would bring your imagination to life. You see, Julie's designs are not meant to be stitched as is. They are meant to be brought to life with color, texture, and imaginative backgrounds.
Julie's designs are also meant to be functional. Pillows, belts, and her signature tote, hobo, and carpet bags which were a first in the needlepoint industry. Julie has conceptualized the size, craftsmanship, and quality of each bag. And, each bag has a season, or a story to be told. There is so much to share, including getting to know Julie's daughter Zoë who is a trailblazing artist with her own sense of color and design.
