Julie Pischke has established herself
as one of the country's only needlepoint designers who
specializes in the florid ambiance of the tropics. Her
award-winning designs, which celebrate the interplay of
colorful worlds of nature and imagination, draw inspiration
from the seductive hues and texture of her home in Key
West.
Julie originally opened her modest shop on historic
Duval Street and built a following that has lasted
for over two decades. She now specializes in custom-designed
and hand-painted canvases, ecclesiastic designs, rugs,
belts, shoes, and eclectic furniture. Today, her studio
is hidden in the back of her boutique, Island Needlework,
on the ground floor of a vintage Conch house built
just before the Civil War.
In 1996, Julie was invited to the prestigious Woodlawn
Plantation near Mount Vernon, Virginia, a show house
of needlepoint designs. A year later, she was asked
to design a special ornament for the 1997 White House
Christmas tree. She has been featured
in publications
including Colonial Homes and Stitcher's World magazine.
